recording evidence of seeding~induced changes in the cloud. Seeded por-
tions of the cloud will be compared to neighboring non-seeded portions.
The amount of additional snow produced will be minimal and the target
area will be limited in extent, generally to the area within a few miles
of the Grand Mesa Observatory (located on top of Grand Mesa) because the
sensing equipment is located there. For the two studies, the work will
be conducted principally during the December-January-February period.
It will not be done on Sundays and only on a limited basis on Saturdays,
which will minimize conflict with winter recreation.

!

The environmental assessment was distributed for review and comment to
approximately 200 individuals, organizations, and Government agencies.
Eight replies were received. These letters, along with the Bureau's
response to specific comments, are appended at the end of this document.

;;.

The environmental assessment shows that because of the timing of the
work, the short duration of the work during the year, and the minimal
amount of increased snowfall that would occur because of the limited
nature of the research program, no significant impacts will occur. An
analysis of the comments received has shown no objection to this finding
when the amount of silver iodide or additional snow that is anticipated
from this program is taken into account. This Finding of No Significant
Impact has therefore been prepared and is submitted to document environ-
mental review and evaluation in compliance with the National Environmental
Policy Act of 1969.

/
{ ~.1 .t...}...'_ .~ ....> /r, I . : ,'z,./.
Environmental Officer
Division of Atmospheric Resources

{, _, 6'. /"
/ .( ( I.
