The allitudc of the top of the brighl band was determined at neaHo-intermcdiate <br />ranges using all four lower lills. It appeared that there was no contamination as long as the l'Iltin' <br />beam was higher lhan (he 0 oC altitude and in only dry snow. This observalion also matches <br />what one would expecl from brighl band lheory. Therefore, il i~ important to know lhe altitude <br />above radar level of the highest 0 oC altitude. Prom the reference frame of a snow particle. this is <br />the (first) mehing level.
