<br />precipitation management technology does not foreclose, per se, the use or <br />development of other water resource management alternatives. <br /> <br />Several alternatives were discussed by the Commissioner of WPRS at recent <br />congressional hearings [3J. Water and Power has conducted feasibility <br />studies on the development of geothermal resources and providing desalting <br />capab il ity to develop a source of freshwater for augment i ng the Colorado <br />River system. It has been found that use of geothermal brines for augmen- <br />ting the Colorado River water supply cannot be economically justified <br />unless an energy production purpose can be included in the development. <br />Water and Power IS demonstration program to improve management of water <br />delivery systems and onfarm irrigation practices has proven to be an <br />effective conservation tool for existing water supplies. Reservoir evap- <br />oration suppression has not proven effective. <br /> <br />6 <br />
