The extra <br />measurements and regular measurements will be the determining <br />data for above normal snowpack suspensions. The SCS will tele- <br />phone measurements for the snow course to EG&G as soon as <br />possible. <br />2. Suspension for avalanche will be only between December 16 and <br />January 31 inclusive, the historic period (1951-1969) for nearly all <br />avalanche occurrences reaching the highway at Wolf Creek Pass. <br />This period may be extended if the Contracting Officer is advised <br />by the Colorado State Highway Department that unusually hazardous <br />snow conditions exist in the starting zones of Wolf Creek Pass <br />avalanches. <br />The avalanche suspension criteria consisted of three factors: I) amount <br />of snowpack above long-term average, 2) maximum 24- hour forecast of natural <br />precipitation within 48-hour period, and 3) total precipitation accrued during <br />the preceding 10 days.
