ABSTRACT

This Final Report summarizes five winter sensors of weather modification
research activities for the Colorado River Ba.sin Pilot Project. The program was
a randomized research seeding operation under the direction of the Bureau of Reclama-
tion. All aspects of the program design, field equipment, operational criteria plan,
opportunity recognition forecasting, and seeding operations for the five ope rational
season are reviewed in the report. Also presented are the meteorological findings
pertinent to precipitation augmentation progr~uns in the San Juan Mountains. Evalua-
tion of experimental data collected during the operational periods of the program by
EG&G, Inc's Durango Field Office Staff indicate that the orographic cloud systems
occurring over the San Juan Mountains respond to seeding with silver iodide nuclei
from ground based nuclei generators similar to orographic cloud systems seeded in
a similar maMer in the vicinity of Climax, Colorado.

LIST OF DESCRIPTORS

Artificial precipitation
Atmosphere
Colorado
Cloud seeding
Cloud types forecasting
Meteorology
Nucleation
Orography

i

Precipitation
River basins

Silver iodide
Snow
Snowpack
Storm structure
Weather modification
