3.5.4

Aquatic Species

. After results of the hydrologic simulations recommended
previously are available, the changed stream and lake reghnes should

.
be analyzed by competent aquatic biologist to assess the likelihood
that they will produce significant ecological change.

This recommendation should be addressed in the same
manner as the wildlife recommendations. It is listed separately because
the major impact of modifica~ion in this case comes from a different
set of variables than with other recommendations. In particular,
a major consideration here is the possible change in the water temper-
ature regime associated with more snow or longer snowmelt duration.
Such temperature changes are known to signi.ficantly influence the
aquatic biology. Probable temperature changes will have to be formulated
from the results of the evaluation of expected changes in the snowmelt

process.

17
