<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Cloud lifetimes could be 12 hr or longl~r, and this also made remote <br /> <br />sensing advantageous. Cloud top altitude typically was only 4-6000 m <br /> <br />MSL and this was near the mountain peaks which lie at 3600 m MSL. <br /> <br />Because of the long-lived shallow nature of the clouds and the embedded <br /> <br />terrain a decision was made therefore to use remote sensing techniques <br /> <br />rather than a cloud physics aircraft. Although an aircraft can provide <br /> <br />very useful and important information upwind of the Tushar Mtns the <br /> <br />limited scale of the 1985 effort could not support such a study without <br /> <br />severely compromising the other investigations. <br /> <br />The Utah Division of Water Resources contracted with a number of <br /> <br />groups to provide the field instrumentation. These groups are listed in <br /> <br />Table 3. Not only did they provide the instrumentation, but they also <br /> <br />provided other expertise or services nel~ded by the program, and they <br /> <br />engaged in the subsequent analysis of the data collected.
