INTRODUCTION

The proposed Sheephorn Project consists of a dam and reservoir
in Gore Canyon of the Colorado River. The damsite is located about
ten miles below Kremmling as sh~~n on the general location map (Dwg.
669-19). A 310 foot high dam at this site, with 20 foot of freeboard,
would impound 210,000 acre-feet at the spillway crest which would be
at elevation 7200 feet.
Water impounded by this project could be used as a supplemental
water supply for the production of synthetic liquid fuels, for the
generation of hydro-electric power and for other purposes. Power
generation is considered to be of secondary importance in the project.
For this reason the main thrust of this report is toward a supple-
mental supply for synfuel production and for the associated urban
growth. Water supply studies were made to determine the shortages in
the Colorado River to meet oil shale needs and the extent to which
the Sheephorn Project could eliminate the shortages, along with cost
esti~ates or the Sheephorn Project. These data are discussed in
detail in the following sections or this report.

-1-
