1. Improve understanding of SLW (supercooled liquid
water) production and depletion:

Additional microwave radiometer observations will
be obtained from the Island Lake site to increase
the SLW "climatology." These data, to be measured
from November 1 to Oecember 13, will again be
related to windflow, upwind moisture content and
additional meteorological factors. Also, frequent
northwest to southeast scanning will be done during
storm periods to provide information on the
representativeness of vertical measurements from
the site.

2. Improve understanding of low-level airflow over the
Mesa:

The free airflow distortions caused by the Mesa "in
the lowest 0.5 km will be investigated, par-
ticularly during November-December. As
discussed by Boe and Super (1985), wind direc-
tions were predominatly southerly at 70 mAgI on
top of the Mesa during SLW episodes.

However, upwind free airflow was generally from
the SW (southwest). Limited aircraft observations
of SW flow at about 450 mAgI suggested veering
of the wind with elevation above the Mesa. It is

4
