;;

1. CRADP Overv i ew and Ob,j ect ives
A. Introduction
The CRADP (Colorado River Augmentation Demonstration Program)
is part of the Bureau of Reclamation's Project Skywater.
Project Skywater has the overall objective of developing an
effective weather modification technology, scientifically and
socially acceptable, for precipitation management to serve a
portion of the Nation's water resources needs.

The two main goals of CRADP are to investigate and
improve cloud seeding technology in the Colorado River
Basin, and to encourage the application of cloud seeding
technology by improving the benefit-to-cost ratio. The
Montrose Skywater Office activities on the Grand Mesa of
west-central Colorado are directed at the first goal.
Success in that area is, of course, helpful to attaining
the second goal.

The Montrose Skywater Office was established in August
1983, to support field investigations of winter
orographic clouds and their modification on the Grand
Mesa. The Mesa was chosen as an experimental area
because of several attributes including:

1. High frequency of winter storms from all important
directions due to its significant rise above upwind

1
