ORA F T

Augmentation for the total region, including water-short areas
outside the Colorado River Basin, is an important consideration in
enhancing regional and state water supply.

~

Estimated Benefits and Costs

The 1952-1971 period for the NAWC study was selected primarily
on the availability of radiosonde and snow course data. The computed
annual virgin flow or undepleted of the Upper Basin during this
period averaged 13,014,000 acre-feet, which is less than the average
of 13,614,000 acre-feet during the last 35 years (1942-1976). Table 3
shows the estimated augmentation potential by years during this
period as compared to the computed virgin flow. The average augmenta-
tion potential in this period is 1,315,000 acre-feet, a 10.1-percent
increase in computed virgin flow and a 13.2-percent increase in
reported Lake Powell inflow.

17
