e CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Five winter seasons of randomized weather modification operations have been completed on the Colorado River Basin Pilot Project using the basic theory and cloud modification models estab- lished during the Climax Program (Climax, Colorado). This fifth year of operations completes the test of the Pilot Project as originally designed. The goal' of the Pilot Proj ect is to determine if cloud seeding can assist in meeting the mounting demand for additional water in many parts of our nation and provide a sound evaluation of precipi- tation increases. e EG&G's obj ective within this Pilot Proj ect is to establish and operate a ground- based instrumentation network to provide meteor- ological data in and near the project area, and to establish and operate a ground-based silver iodide seeding system to increase snowfall in the project area. EG&G will also establish, refine, and provide sound scientific weather modificati.on procedures for producing increases in snowfall over large areas of the San Juan and adjacent mountains for future, fully operational weather modification programs. The Comprehensive Atmospheric Data Report provides a compilation of the meteorological data that can be used to support the seeding activities during the 1974-75 operating season. The compiled data in this volume is primarily intended for use by the Pilot proj ect Evaluation Contractor in analyzing and evaluating precipitation events resulting from seeded and ullseeded (natural) cloud systems (the seeding data are contained in a companion report, Comprehensive Seeding Report, AL 1173). The entire report is largely a data compilation; however, it does present operational summaries and analysis material. This volume (Comprehensive Atmospheric Data Report, AL 1172) consists of two main slections: A.
