<br />Snow research <br /> <br />The snow project is to determine <br />the physical and economic feasibili- <br />ty 01 increasing snowfall in the <br />Rocky Mounlains to provide more <br />run-off water to southern Alberta, <br />often plagued by shortages. <br />The first few years of this new <br />project will be devoted 10 reviewing <br />similar projects in the United Stales. <br />carefully comparing their weather <br />situations with those here. This <br />period will also be used 10 observe <br />mountain clouds and snowfall to <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />establish a climatology of <br />atmospheric conditions during <br />snowfall events. Data already <br />gathered by the cloud physics air- <br />craft indicate the existence of some <br />cloud seeding potential. <br />If the project's economic benehts <br />warrant, studies will begin on deter. <br />mining cloud processes and on <br />developing modification hypotheses <br />for seeding lests. These studies <br />could lead to recommendations for <br />a future program. <br /> <br />Researchers are studying methods <br />of increasing snowfall on mountain <br />tops to increase spring runoff and <br />water to the plains regions. <br /> <br />
