In 1983 the research toward these objectives was largely statistical in

nature with less emphasis on case-study analyses of the data. In 1985,

on the other hand, the reverse emphasis will prevail because the

available instrumentation and techniques will be more advanced in some

way s .

Statistical studies will still be made in 1985 using appropriate

parts of the data sets in order to establish the context of the case

studies.

The statisticaL studies will also allow some important com-

parisons of 1985 data with those of earlier years.

Table 1 lists the groups participating in the research program and

the instrumentation, observational capability, or other service each

will supply. The Utah Division of Water Resources is the prime contrac-

tor. The remaining groups are subcontractors to UDWR. They will supply

instrumentation and other capabilities for conventional meteorological

observations, for tracing and tracking of the air motion toward, over,

and around the Tushar Mtns, and for remote sensing and surface obser-

vations of the clouds and precipitation. Several of the groups will be

involved in analysis and interpretation of the data.

Figure 1 shows the locations of the research instrumentation.

Much

of the instrumentation is located on or near the Tushar Mtns in order to

provide high resolution information on the clouds and precipitation.

This plan describes how the research data to be collected in the

1985 field program will be analyzed. The purpose is to help guide and

focus the analysis.

Section 2 briefly discusses the scientific objec-

tives and the experimental approach that will be taken. Section 3 lists

the field research instrumentation. Section 4 summarizes the schedule

for data processing that will be followed in order to make the data

2

\
\
.
\
'\ ~

\
\
l
\
; I
~

..

-'"

.

.

.

.

.
