north of the Arkansas River. It was first filed upon No-
vember 15, 1900, claiming a capacity of 11,400 acre-
feet, to be supplied annually from the Arkansas river
and from Horse Creek. During the \;vinter of 1901 and
1902 the reservoir was developed by making the nec-
essary outlet cut to tap the bottom of the basin, with
controlling gates and pipes, together VJith a feeder ca-
nal from Horse Creek about 5 miles long, and a divert-
ing weir across Horse Creek, The total expenditure on
this work was about 555,000.00.

After it had been decided to build the Storage Canal
from the river it was deemed advisable to increase the
capacity by building a lower dam or dike across the 10\".J-
est depression in the rim of the basin, and for that pur-
pose an additional filing was made, dated December
20:!'. 1907, claiming a capacity up to 26,887 acre-feet.
This dam was built and the reservoir is now filled to the
full capacity stated. The dike is about 12,000 feet long,
and 20 feet wide on top for 4.600 feet in the center, 14
feet wide the remaining distance. It has an upstream
slope of 2 on 1 for part of its length, and 4 on 1 the
remainder. The maximum height is but 16 feet, the crest
being placed 5 feet above the spillway level. The bot-
tom of the outlet cut is 11 feet below the surface. The
upstream surface is covered with a slab of reinforced
concrete 4 to 5 inches thick as a protection against wave
erosion. The cost of this work has been 538,606.33, as
per the Continental Audit Company's report.

On March 1, 1910, the Company filed on a further ex-
tension on this reservoir, to maKe :!s ultimate capacity
48,990 acre-feet. giving an available depth on 27 feet.
The dam is to be raised 6.6 feet, making It 22.4 feet in

4"
