In computing this ratio <br />the estimated loss in the canal for the first 42 miles is <br />first deducted, and the amount measured to the Kick- <br />ing Bird Canal bears a certain ratio to the remainder, <br />which is then taken as the Storage company's percent- <br />age of the maintenance cost. For instance, during the <br />12 months from November, 1902, to October, 1903, <br />according to the annual report of superintendent C. W. <br />Burke, the Fort Lyon Canal carried 181 ,572 acre-feet; <br />loss was estimated at 30% or 54,471 acre-feet. ieaving <br />127,101 acre-feet as measured at Gageby, which was <br />19.9% of the estimated total available, leaving 102,326 <br />acre-feet for the Fort Lyon ,,"vater users.
