CDM

Executive Summary

3. Reduce water use by 15 percent on all existing city irrigated parks and
landscaping by 2014 and optimize irrigation efficiency on all new city irrigated
parks and landscaping.

4. Implement conservation measures and programs that are compatible with the
community.

5. Establish a monitoring system that collects a sufficient amount of data to
effectively measure the success of conservation programs and measures on an
annual basis.

Selection of Conservation Measures and Programs

A variety of water conservation measures and programs were evaluated to determine
their compatibility with Erie's objectives and water supply system and their ability to
achieve the target water conservation savings. Following evaluation, a set of
measures/programs were selected for implementation. These measures/programs
meet the following criteria:

. Conservation measures or programs that could contribute to meeting the
conservation goals

. Conservation measures/programs that are compatible with Erie's policies and
community

. Conservation measures/programs that would be effective throughout the
community

Some of these conservation measures/programs are currently implemented by Erie
and have proven to be successful and worth continuing.

Table ES-l provides a description for each of the selected measures and programs
selected for implementation.

Table ES-1 Selected Conservation MeasureslProgram and Implementation Plan

Conservation I New or Existing I Description
Measures/Programs
Landscape and Irrigation Efficiency for Parks
Established Parks
. Moisture sensors New Installation of moisture sensors at all existing parks. These
sensors will detect precipitation and shut off the irrigation system if
it is raininQ.
. Evapotranspiration (ET) New Installation of a demo ET controller at Coal Creek park. If proven to
controllers be effective, the parks department will consider installing ET
controllers at additional parks.

DRAFT

ES-2

\\DENSVR1\PROJECTS\9228 - ERIE\CONSERVATION PLAN\REPORT\DRAFT PRIOR TO PUBLIC REVIEW\CONNIE FORMATTED\EXECUTIVE SUMMARY.DOC
