2.1.2 Population

Over the past 5 years, Erie's population has doubled and is expected to continue to
rapidly develop in the coming years. As shown in Figure 2-2, Erie has a current
population of approximately 14,000 people. This population is projected to continue
to increase rapidly as Erie develops. It is anticipated that Erie will serve over 33,500
people in 2025. These population estimates for both existing and future development
are based on Erie's draft Water Supply Master Plan.

8,000

7,000
~
LL 6,000
~
~ 5,000
:::::>
m 4,000
co
S
_ 3,000
co
::J
2 2,000
<(

1,000

o
2005

2010

2015

2020

2025

Figure 2-2 Historical and Projected Population

Current population and population projections for 2010 and buildout were estimated
using the following information and assumptions:

. Current developments within Erie's service area

. Information on future land use from the Comprehensive Master Plan

. Assumed 2.79 people per unit for residential development

. Assumed future development will correspond with the Comprehensive Master
Plan land use map

. Assumed the buildout service includes those areas currently served by the Left
Hand Water District

. Growth is assumed to be 6 percent per year through 2010 and 4 percent per year
after 2010

. Residential density was based on the following densities provided by the Town
Planner:

- Rural Density - 1 unit/ acre
- Low Density - 4 units/ acre

T:\9228 - Erie\Conservation Plan\Completion Reports\50% Completion Report.doc
