(Status Report July 2002)

Water Project Construction Program
Non-Reimbursable Investment Project

Grantee: Colorado Institute for Irrigation Management (CSU)

Project Name: Benefits of Dual Water Systems Project Type: Study

Counties: Weld, Larimer, Boulder Drainage Basin: South Platte

Total Study Cost: $220,512

Funding Sources: CWCB, NCWCD, Tri-Districts, J-U-B Engineering, CSU,
St. Vrain and Lefthand WCD.

Type of Grantee: Agricultural/Municipal

Median Household Income: N/A

CWCB Non-reimbursable investment: $136,131

Funding is to cover 62% of the cost of a study to assess the Benefits and Costs of
Pressurized Dual Water Systems in Colorado. (Dual water systems deliver raw water for
outside irrigation, reducing the demand on drinking water systems during the summer.)
The study has concentrated on northeast Colorado, particularly water districts 1 through
6, but study findings are generally transferable statewide. Phase I is nearing completion
and the final report is being drafted. CSU is proceeding with Phase 2 to provide feasibility
level evaluation of two agricultural water providers (The New Cache La Poudre Irrigating
Company and the Highland Ditch Company) and their potential for dual water system
development. A stockholders meeting of the New Cache La Poudre Irrigating Company
was held June 27, 2002 to explain the study and opportunities for the Company.
Stockholders were receptive but cautious. To date CSU has exoended $101 ,613 of the
$136,131 available CWCB funding. The study is on schedule and has significant potential
to~ result in a future loan from the Construction Fund/Severance Tax Perpetual Base
Account.
-

Proj-New\CSU Dual H20 Status Report702
