~

.

Stratus Consulting

Private Nonprofit Water Systems in Colorado

Table 2.1 shows the breakdown by type for these 2,131 systems. Of the total, 58% are private
systems. All other systems that are not private make up the other 42%. Of the total private
systems, 20% are PNPWSs and 80% are private for-profit water systems.

Table 2.1. The lower
section of Table 2.1 shows the breakdown for community water systems only. There are
841 community water systems total in SDWIS. Private community water systems are 45% of the
total community systems. Of the private community water systems, 174 of the systems we
identified in SDWIS are community PNPWSs; or 46% of the total private community water
systems. These 174 or so community PNPWSs are the target water systems for this study.

2.3 Where Are the Private Nonprofit Water Systems Located
in Colorado?

To locate water systems on a map, data in the SDWIS database were matched with data from
Colorado's Source Water Assessment Program database, which has water systems locations. A
significant number of systems did not have matches between the two databases. We mapped the
systems that had matches in the following figures. Figure 2.1 shows all community water
systems for which matches were possible, with community PNPWSs shaded in as purple dots
and all other community systems as gold dots. Figure 2.2 shows only community PNPWSs, with
surface water systems represented with blue dots and groundwater systems represented with red
dots.

Page 2-2
SCll199
