<br />CHILDREN'S WATER FESTIVAL <br /> <br />On Thursday, May Q, 2002 <br />approx.imately 1800 students from <br />School Districts 60, 70 and <br />Pueblo's rrivalc schools ascended <br />on the University of Southern <br />Colorado to allcnd the fourth <br />annual Children's Watc..... Festival <br />held in Pueblo. <br />This years Waler Festival was <br />sponsored by the Board of Water <br />Works of I'ucblo. nurcau of <br />Reclamation. Pueblo WCSI <br />Metropolitan District. Southeastern <br />Colorado Water Conservancy <br />District. Sl. Charles Mesa Waler <br />District and the University of <br />Southern Colorado. <br /> <br />to infonn children and adults about <br />the importance of water in their <br />everyday lives. <br />C1a!'.st..'S of children and their <br />teachers circulated through the <br />festival on prearranged schedules <br />lead by volunteers from Pueblo <br />County High Schools Future <br />Fanners of America and DEe ^ <br />club. They visited hands-on <br />demonstrations. plus dozens of <br />classroom presentations. all related <br />to waler and its many uses. A <br />kno....'ledge bowl-type game called <br />Water WinnJs let children from <br />ditTerent classes/sl'hools match toeir <br />water knm,,'ledgc against each otoer. <br />Steve Arveschoug <br />was one of the <br />Water Wizards who <br />asked the questions <br />to the ranicipants in <br />toe game. At our May <br />16, 2002 board meeting the <br />board held a dedication <br />luncheon for Ralph Adkins, <br />Tom Pointon. and David <br />Sarton. <br />Ralph Adkins was <br />recognized with a <br />Distinguished Service Award <br />for his 29 years of service <br />(1973 to 2002), including 11 <br />years as President of the <br />board, David Sarton was <br />recognized for his 16 years of <br />service and Tom Pointon for <br />his 13 years both for <br />outstanding leadership and <br />service to southeastern <br />Colorado. The three directors <br />were also recognized by the <br />Honorable Scott Mcinnis in <br />the House of Representatives <br />on congressional record <br />acknowledging their <br />dedication and commitment to <br />Colorado water. <br />The District board members <br />and staff were also informed <br />that Steve Arveschoug, <br />General Manager has <br />accepted another position <br />with the Delores Water <br />Conservancy District. Steve's <br />last day with the District will <br />be July 10, 2002. The staff <br />would like to express our <br />gratitude for Steve's <br />dedication to the District.
