CHILDREN'S WATER FESTIVAL

School Districts 60, 70 and
Pueblo's rrivalc schools ascended
on the University of Southern
Colorado to allcnd the fourth
annual Children's Watc..... Festival
held in Pueblo.
This years Waler Festival was
sponsored by the Board of Water
Works of I'ucblo. nurcau of
Reclamation. Pueblo WCSI
Metropolitan District. Southeastern
Colorado Water Conservancy
District. Sl. Charles Mesa Waler
District and the University of
Southern Colorado.

to infonn children and adults about
the importance of water in their
everyday lives.

teachers circulated through the
festival on prearranged schedules
lead by volunteers from Pueblo
County High Schools Future
Fanners of America and DEe ^
club. They visited hands-on
demonstrations. plus dozens of
classroom presentations. all related
to waler and its many uses. A
kno....'ledge bowl-type game called
Water WinnJs let children from
ditTerent classes/sl'hools match toeir
water knm,,'ledgc against each otoer.
Steve Arveschoug
was one of the
Water Wizards who
asked the questions
to the ranicipants in
toe game. Other
events included
music. art. aerobic
exercise. and magic
shows that ol'lped
highlight the many
wonderful ways that
water makes lite
possible.
The Fifth Annual

NOTE OF
GRATITUDE

The Southeastern Colorado
Water Conservancy District
would like to express our
sincere gratitude to the three
long-time Directors that did
not receive reappointment to
the District board. At our May
16, 2002 board meeting the
board held a dedication
luncheon for Ralph Adkins,
Tom Pointon. and David
Sarton.
Ralph Adkins was
recognized with a
Distinguished Service Award
for his 29 years of service
(1973 to 2002), including 11
years as President of the
board, David Sarton was
recognized for his 16 years of
service and Tom Pointon for
his 13 years both for
outstanding leadership and
service to southeastern
Colorado. The three directors
were also recognized by the
Honorable Scott Mcinnis in
the House of Representatives
on congressional record
acknowledging their
dedication and commitment to
Colorado water.
The District board members
and staff were also informed
that Steve Arveschoug,
General Manager has
accepted another position
with the Delores Water
Conservancy District. Steve's
last day with the District will
be July 10, 2002. The staff
would like to express our
gratitude for Steve's
dedication to the District. We
wish him and his family the
best on their new venture.
