<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />News (ltJd Notes from tbe <br />SOUTHEASTERN COLORADO WATER CONSERVANCY DISTRICT <br /> <br />VOLUME 2, ISSUE 2 <br />\X~'llcr Preservation Group Gels Help <br />r rOI11 tIle District <br /> <br />As a first step in supporting <br />the efforts of the Arkansas Valley <br />Water Preservation Group, the <br />District board of directors voted <br />unanimously to become a part of <br />a five-county intergovernmental <br />agreement (IGA) and match local <br />dollars to work on a plan of <br />action. The District pledged <br />$60,000 to match the money <br />already committed by GOCO and <br />the five counties involved in the <br />project lPueblo, Crowley, Otero, <br />Bent, and Prowers). <br />The goal of the effort is to <br />form an entity that could pool the <br />financial resources of the Valley <br />to purchase agricultural water <br />rights (when they're on the <br />marketJ in order to preserve their <br />use in the basin. <br /> <br />After executing the lOA, the <br />five counties and the District wlll <br />contract with a facilitator to help <br />develop a specific set of goals <br />and objectives. The plants have emerged <br />a little earlier this year with the <br />mild weather. This will be the <br /> <br /> <br />third year the garden plants have <br />been in and they should be <br />established by now.
