necessary to provide such assistance, and the staff support would enhance the `technical-
transfer' in a way not currently available in the state. In addition, many providers would
prefer to work through a voluntary approach to conservation, delivered by anon-profit
like CWWC, rather than be forced by regulation.
As witnessed in other states, such as California and Texas, statewide comprehensive
BMPs have proven to be a solid foundation for launching meaningful conservation
implementation at the water provider and community level. Through execution of this
grant project, CWWC would fill an identified gap in Colorado's conservation efforts and
would greatly increase the capacity of Colorado communities to increase, and maintain,
water resource efficiencies.
Project Scope of Work
The mission of the CWWC is to have staff who can help reach water providers and the
communities of Colorado by educating and providing technical assistance, which in turn
will foster a respect for water resources and conservation practices.
The ED position will have three key tasks: 1 }utilize the knowledge and expertise of
CWWC's Board of Directors and members to develop a new, comprehensive Best
Management Practices (BMP} Program; 2) maintain a robust, fresh, and interactive
website; 3) support the CWWC organization in it's operations.
In addition to the new BMP effort, the CWWC will continue to deliver a broad array of
detailed projects that will complement the mission and purpose of the Colorado Water
Conservation Board's (CWCB) Water Conservation and Drought Planning Program
(OWCDP). The ED will provide support to these CWWC efforts, and participate as a
leader in water conservation efforts statewide. The ED will participate on behalf of the
CWWC in state-wide Water Conservation Workshops, thus assisting CWCB in providing
education and information to water managers as they construct and implement their water
conservation and drought mitigation plans.
Resources Generated
Through its XeriscapeTM Colorado program, CWWC has developed a reputation for
offering many resources to encourage the efficient use of outdoor water, including
informative how-to-booklets, journals and brochures that provide water efficiency
information to businesses and home owners alike. Specific examples include:
• Metro Mayors Caucus Water Conservation BMPs, 2005.
• Colorado State University's Water Conservation Training for Professionals, 2005.
• Water Conservation Workshops in Colorado, 2006 and 2007.
• Developed a CD for "Colorado Water: Past, Present and Future Choices" in
cooperation with the League of Women Voters, 2004.
• Developed a CD for "WATER: Colorado's Precious Resource," 1996 and 1999.
• Created and distributed XeriscapeTM publications including, "At Home with
Xeriscape" and the "Xeriscape Maintenance Journal," since 1995.
• Provided conservation comments to the State of Colorado Water Conservation
Board, Office of Water Conservation and Drought Planning, 2005.
