<br />Reservoirs
<br />
<br />. The Imperial Irrigation District has constructed seven regulating reservoirs as part of itS ongoing wate1" conser-
<br />\1~tion program. The, reservoirs receive water that would normally be surplus and store the water for beneficial Use
<br />when needed. Together, the District's reservoirs have a storage capacity of more than 2,500 acre-feet (AF)of water.'

<br />he Kakoo Singh ReservOll-, the first reservoir
<br />constructed by the DistriCt, receives surplus water from
<br />the East JlighlineCanal and diverts water into the, Vail '

<br />East High.liner near the ,Vail Supply Heading and above
<br />the Nectarine Check. This reservoir was named after a
<br />locaI fanner.

<br />J. Melvin Sheldon, who was manager of the Water
<br />Department from 1966 to 1976.

<br />The Fudge Reservoir is on the Central Main
<br />Canal 'near Brawley. O. L. "Oscar" Fudge was a Water
<br />Department manager who retired in 1966.

<br />The Sperber is located west of Holtville on
<br />Meloland Road. Water from the Rositas Canal is held

<br />canals. The reservoir was named after Herman "Red"
<br />Sperber, a local farmer and long-time member of the
<br />County Board' of Supervisors.

<br />Robert F. Carter Reservoir
<br />
<br />The Carter Reservoir is designed to conserve
<br />, operational discharge from the end of the Westside
<br />Main Canal. located adjacent to Highway 86, six miles
<br />north of Westmorland, the reservoir also features a '
<br />computerized control system and a specially designed
<br />are", for recreational fishing. A five-foot dike impounds
<br />water within the fish habitat area. The dike is 1,000 feet
<br />by 110 feet with a sandy beach for fishing access. Robert
<br />F. Carter served as the District's General Manager from
<br />1959 to 1977.
