Brock (619) 339-9417 <br /> <br />IMPERIAL IRRIGATION DISTRICT PROPOSES <br />REGIONAL WATER FRAMEWORK TO END <br />COLORADO RIVER WATER WARS <br /> <br />California users should "work together" to achieve equity for all parties. <br /> <br />LAS VEGAS, NV -- The Imperial Irrigation District (110), which has rights to more Colorado <br /> <br />River water than any other state and all other California users, offered a blueprint today <br /> <br />that provides for the needs of all seven Colorado River Basin states including California, <br /> <br />and addresses other states' requests that California have a plan to meet its supply needs <br /> <br />within its Colorado River entitlement of 4.4 million acre-feet a year. <br /> <br />California's water demand continues to be about 800,000 acre-feet above its <br /> <br />entitlement annually, a practice that is drawing growing criticism from other states that are <br /> <br />dependent on the Colorado River for their own water needs. The framework addresses <br /> <br />the needs of all of the entities that use water from the Lower Colorado River while seeking <br /> <br />to protect the interests of others. <br /> <br />"We have seen and heard many different scenarios for river water management," <br /> <br />said 110 General Manager Mike Clinton, "but they tend to favor whoever is proposing them <br /> <br />and place others at risk.
