Finally, because of their location at main canal spill outlets, reservoirs enable
the recovery of excessive surface runoff and spillage that occurs during storm events due to
delivery cutbacks. Therefore, if properly located, the construction of additional reservoirs could
prove beneficial to future water conservation efforts based upon their popularity and
conservation value.

Table IV.A.3a-l Existing Regulating Reservoirs

Reservoir
Name

Capacity

Year of Operation

Kalwo Singh
J.M. However, the primary factor regarding the conservation
effectiveness of these structures is the on-fann management level that the water user employs.
These storage facilities would be constructed downstream of the delivery headgate in or near the
uppermost portion of the private landowner's ditches and contain up to 10 acre-feet of storage
area. Tailwater could also be collected in a sump and pumped back to the reservoir if so desired.

Draft: Subject To Revision 12/21/95

34
