\'"ESTE~'\" DIVISIOX PO\VER SYSTElVl
'YATER YEAR 1997 - GENERATIO~ AND PUxlP E~ERGY

The Western Division Po\\-er System (System) boundaries are illustrated in Exhibit 1. An above
a"-erage runoff caused the System generation to be abow average for the 1997 water year. System
energy deficits were experienced during the fall and winter.

During the 1997 \\-mer year the total System generation for load was 2.583.5 gigawatt-hours (gWh)
compared to a total System load of 2.213.9 g\Vh. The total generation for load is the gross generation
less the total CBT Project pumping: gross generation includes one-half of the Yellow tail generation.
The total System load includes firm energy deliveries. Project use energy. suppon energy, Plant station
sen-ice. and an estimate of transmission system losses. The System experienced energy deficits from
October through January. and September. ranging from 81.9 gWh in October to 4.0 gWh in September.
Energy surpluses were experienced from February through August. ranging from 9.3 gWh in February
to 170.7 g\\-h in June. Table 3 shows monthly generation and pumping energy by plant as well as
monthly System loads for water year 1997. The total gross generation (Table 1) was 129 percent of
average and 454.7 g\Vh more than in water year 1996. The total pump energy (Table 2) was 179
percent of awrage and 93.5 g\Vh greater than the previous year.

The revenue from power sales was S..t! .441.000 in the 1997 water year. Energy deficits were covered
by a combination of scheduled interchange energy. use of the Mt. Elbert Pump Storage Plant. and
pO\\"er purchases. The Western Area Po\\-er Administration' s Lowland Area Office power purchases
total 5754.000 for water year 1997.

I
