Sherman <br />DNR Executive Director <br /> <br />This summary is from the combined meeting between Colorado's Flood Task Force <br />(FTF) and Water Availability Task Force (W ATF) held at the Natural Resources <br />Conservation Services offices in Lakewood, Colorado. DNR Executive Director Harris Sherman expressed appreciation for the Task Force members and <br />participants, and for their efforts in monitoring and reporting the water supply and potential flooding <br />conditions. Coordination between federal and state agencies in a year with high snowpack presents a <br />challenging situation and we need to be proactive and thoughtful. <br /> <br />CWCB Staff Report <br />. Tom Browning is the Chair of the FTF and is the Chief of the CWCB's Watershed Protection and Flood <br />Mitigation Section. <br />. Thuy Patton is the Community Assistance Program coordinator between the locals, state and the Federal <br />Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). She manages the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), <br />visits the communities to make sure they are in compliance. This year we sponsored 15 floodplain <br />managers to take the certified floodplain managers exam. We provided flood insurance workshops in the <br />Rio Grande, Gunnison, and San Juan Basins. We will also have an NFIP meeting in Steamboat Springs. <br />. Joe Busto is the regulatory person for cloud seeding program in Colorado. New tools developed are daily <br />mapping a tapering snowpack snow water equivalent thresholds and avalanche hazard levels determined <br />by the Colorado Avalanche Information Center suspended all wintertime cloud seeding by the last week <br />of January 2008. <br />. Chris Sturm is the state's river restoration program coordinator and presented spatial snowpack maps for <br />Colorado. The CWCB and the USBR have provided daily mapping of snowpack since 2004. The project <br />uses a NOAA experimental model called the Snow Data Assimilation System (SNODAS). <br />. Dawn Gladwell manages floodplain mapping working with communities outside of the Denver Metro <br />area to take paper floodplain maps to digital format. There are 15 counties underway, 18 counties with <br />preliminary maps, and 31 counties left to go.
