<br />The purpose oftbisCooperative Agreement is to implement certain aspects of the U.S. <br />Fish and Wildlife,Servicc's (WFWSW) reCovery plans for the target species that relate to <br />their associated habitats by providing for the following during the term of tbis <br />Cooperative.A~:. <br /> <br /> <br />COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT FOR PLATTE RIVER RESEARCH <br />AND OTHER EFFORTS RELATING TO ENDANGERED SPECIES HABITATS <br />ALONG THE CENTRAL PLATTE RIVER, NEBRASKA <br /> <br />Pursuant to the authorities set forth in Paragraph X.D of this Cooperative Agreement for Platte <br />River Research and Other Efforts Relating to ~ntt~ngered Species Habitats Along the Central <br />Platte River, Nebraska ("Cooperative Agreement"), the signatories agree to participate in and <br />implement certain activities relating to. four target species (mterior least tern, whooping crane, <br />piping plover and pallid sturgeon) listed as threatened or endangered pursuant to the <br />F.ntt~ngered Species Act rESA W), 16 U.S.C. 1531 ~., and their associated habitats.l <br /> <br />I. PURPOSES <br /> <br />A. implemcn%ation of research. analysis and other measures that will benefit the <br />target species and their associated habitats, as set forth in Am~~ I, wMilestoDCS for <br />the Cooperative Agreement"; <br /> <br />- .' <br />B., implem~tiOD of efforts to acquhe, restore, and m:IIUlge'laDd or imeIests in <br />land so as to In'C?vide and improve associated habitats for the target species, as set forth <br />in Atta~hment 1, wMilestones for.thc COoperative Agreement"; <br /> <br />For purposes of this Cooperative Agieemcm and its "thI~1nn~.the term. "aSSOCiBted <br />habitats" mcans~ with respect to the interior least tern, whooping crane and piping plover, the <br />Platte River Valley beginning at the junction of U.S. Highway 283 and IDterstate 80 near <br />Lexington, Nebraska, and extending eastWard to Chapman, Nebraska, including dcsigTI~ted <br />critical habitat for the whooping crane. With respect to the pallid sturgeon, the term <br />"associated habitat" means the Lower Platte River between its confluence with the Elkhom <br />River and its confluence with the Missouri River. "Associated habitats" shall include critical <br />habitat in the Platte River Basin which may be subsequently desig11l1ted by FWS for the target <br />species. The Governance Committee may, through the adaptive management process, agree to <br />undertake, fund or give credit for activities outside the associated habitats with the intent to <br />focus activities to create the greatest biological benefit to the target species. <br />
