I

I

I

I

instructional groups tend to paddle through much easier whitewater than other
boaters. Design and layout of access, bank improvements, and some in-stream
improvements should take these users into account. Additionally, instructional
programs seek whitewater improvements that will extend the boating season. One
local firm suggested that the Boating Park would be an ideal location, if designed
properly, to instruct on the shoulder seasons in addition to peak flows.

I

I

Associated Design Criteria:
. Must have a variety of whitewater activities.

I

. Must have unintimidating options.

I

. Must have a navigable reach of river that has attractive "park-
and-play" options.
. Must be designed for an extended season.
. Must be designed to accommodate all levels of boaters for a wide
range of flows.
· Requires numerous eddies, pools and velocity breaks in order to
rest, avoid impacts with other boaters, and get in and out of the
boat.

I

I

I

I

· The course must provide world-class whitewater in an attractive

setting.

I

· The course must provide a quality experience to as many users as
possible.

· Must provide different recreational opportunities at a variety of
flows.

I

I

Top-Level Boater

I

This user will quickly acquire expert knowledge of the course and its features. These
users will typically not need rescue on the water nor guidance off the water.
However, these users have high expectations for the whitewater that they paddle in.
In order to host large competitive events these users need to have challenging and

I
I

I

(jar) \i.1 ;.C\, 1',1.
-1,~'5 -\r;lfl;jnn~ Ave l-3dulLh.T CO ~')l.IJn~
Rc,:,-....,1iilLl~I:-L.lgi:w~I-;ti~~,/fCOnlcu...t.nct \\\\\ .\\\\'T1i1rl...~.ClWl (.;03) 2'45-5SXJ

15
