In order to determine the average monthly amount of water that Colorado is required to deliver to
New Mexico from the Animas River, the model the Bureau of Reclamation prepared for the ALP
analysis was utilized. This model determines natural river flows then re-operates the river flows
from 1929 to 1993 as if current diversions had been in place for the entire period. There are no
diversion records in New Mexico; therefore, the model[ estimates diversions based on calculated
crop consumptive use each month for irrigation and current diversions for municipal and
industrial uses. Though using the ALP model is an estimate, it provides a reasonable evaluation
of the amount of over delivery to New Mexico the RICD will cause. The results are shown in
Table A and each column of Table A is described below.

· Column (I) - Months of the year.
· Column (2) - The average monthly flow for diversions in New Mexico upstream of
confluence with the San Juan River except for the Farmers Mutual Ditch.
· Column (3) - The average monthly flow for diversions for the Farmers Mutual Ditch
which can divert from either the Animas or the: San Juan Rivers for irrigation along the
San Juan River. This analysis assumes all diversions from the Animas River.
· Column (4) - The average monthly flow required from the Animas River to meet water
needs in New Mexico from the San Juan River. The flow ofthe San Juan River upstream
of the Animas River was compared to the total diversions from the San Juan River.
Based on the average monthly flows there was only one month when Animas River water
was needed. This analysis does not include any intervening flow or return flows, in
which case there would be no need for Animas River water.
· Column (5) - Sum of columns 1,2, and 3.
· Column (6) - The RICD water right amounts in the application.
· Column (7) - Shows the amount of over delivery to New Mexico.

TABLE A
(1 ) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7)
NMDivr.
