Please provide a brief narrative of any related or relevant previous studies. <br /> <br />The Southwestern La Plata County Regional Water System Study, Phase I, June 2003 <br />(Harvey Economics) evaluated the need for a domestic water system in the project area. <br />The study was commissioned by the Animas La Plata Water Conservancy District, the <br />Southern Ute Indian Tribe, La Plata County and the Upper La Plata Water Users <br />Association (New Mexico). The study concluded that the water demand and potential <br />economic resources are sufficient to further pursue the development of water in this region. <br /> <br />The Southwestern La Plata County Rural Domestic Water System Appraisal Level Study, <br />March, 2004 (Bureau of Reclamation Technical Service Center) determined an <br />appraisal-level cost to construct a rural domestic water system from Lake Nighthorse to New <br />Mexico, with main distribution lines to areas in southwestern La Plata County. <br /> <br />The Preliminary Engineering Report for Southwestern La Plata County Rural Domestic <br />Water System, August 2007, conducted by Cheney Walters Echols, Inc., evaluated the <br />feasibility, construction cost and operation and maintenance costs for five different system <br />layout designs. The LPWWA has used is continuing to refine these preliminary engineering <br />designs and develop the best water supply structure design for the system. <br /> <br />10 <br />
