Sherman, Executive Director Colorado Department of Natural Resources Mr. Eric Hecox, Manager, Office of Interbasin Compact Negotiations Colorado Department of Natural Resources Mr. Rick Brown, Section Chief, Intrastate Water Management & Development Colorado Water Conservation Board Gentlemen: The Rio Grande Inter-Basin Roundtable (RGRT) has determined that the single, most critical water issue confronting the Rio Grande Basin is the current unsustainable management of surface and ground water. The RGRT is determined that water activities that address this issue and support our future sustainability will be favorably considered for funding from the Water Supply Reserve Account, SB 2005 -179, providing that the proposed water activities meet the SWSI findings for the Basin and the CWCB and IBCC Criteria and Guidelines for funding. The RGRT is requesting authorization and consideration for distribution of funds pursuant to SB 2005 -179, for Basin Funds of $200,000.00 and Statewide Funds of $1 ,300,000.00, per the enclosed application from the Rio Grande Headwaters Land Trust (RiGHT) for the Rio Grande Initiative, a collaborative, community-based effort to protect the land and water along the Rio Grande river corridor. At the regular RGRT meeting on January 8, 2008, the membership voted unanimously to request funding from SB 2005 - 179 - Basin-wide and Statewide Funds, for the Rio Grande Initiative as follows: PROJECT AND AMOUNT REQUESTED , SOURCE SB 179 Rio Grande Initiative STATE $ 1,300,000.00 Rio Grande Initiative BASIN $ 200,000.00 Page 1 of 3
