16. ABSTRACT

This report describes studies of winter cyclonic storms, orographic
clouds, and precipitation over the Cascade Mountains of Washington State.
During the July 1970-June 1971 period simultaneous airborne, ground and
radar observations were made in a number of different synoptic situations,
and investigations into the effects on clouds and precipitation of seeding
with artificial ice nuclei were continued. Progress was also made in
developing a theoretical model to describe the flow of air over the
Cascade Mountains and the growth and fall-out of precipitation from
orographic clouds.
