SUPPLEMENTARY NOTES This document is a report on research conducted by the
Cloud Physics Group, Atmospheric Sciences Dept., University of Washington,
directed by Professor Peter V. Hobbs, and under subcontract to the ~tate of
Washin ton De ar ment of Ecolo
16. ABSTRACT

This report describes studies of winter cyclonic storms, orographic
clouds, and precipitation over the Cascade Mountains of Washington State.
During the July 1970-June 1971 period simultaneous airborne, ground and
radar observations were made in a number of different synoptic situations,
and investigations into the effects on clouds and precipitation of seeding
with artificial ice nuclei were continued. Progress was also made in
developing a theoretical model to describe the flow of air over the
Cascade Mountains and the growth and fall-out of precipitation from
orographic clouds.

I

I

I

I

I

I

I

17.
