The work was done in support of the Utah/NOAA Cooperative
Atmospheric Modification Research Program.
The authors would like to thank Dr. Arlin Super of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for
his efforts as lead scientist in the 1991 Utah/NOAA Field Research Project, which resulted in
the very good quality data sets that were collected by the participating organizations. We also
appreciate the many discussions with. Dr. Super that have helped to outline and organize our
analysis efforts. We would also like to thank Mr. Clark Ogden of the Utah Division of Water
Resources for his skill in organizing the logistical aspects of the Field Program, and for his
dedicated and good natured leadership as Operations Director during the 1991 Field Project.
Thanks go to all of the other Utah/NOAA participants, including Mr. Don Griffith of North
American Weather Consultants, Dr. James Heimbach, Jr. of the University of North Carolina-
Asheville, and Dr. Kenneth Sassen of the University of Utah, for their cooperation in providing
sounding, aircraft, and radar data sets.
Several of the staff at the Desert Research Institute deserve special recognition for their
efforts in regard to the 1991 Field Project.. Mr. Richard Smith, in particular, made the
modifications to the DR! radiometer to enable it to be used in a mobile mode. His help in the
data reduction and editing processes was also invaluable. It was a pleasure working with Mr.
John Cooper who drove the mobile radiometer, often during quite adverse weather conditions,
for nearly all of the mobile experiments. Mr. Cooper also supported the K.-band radar
operation and other DOT site equipment. Mr. Paul Lage has made several major modifications
to the Utah K.-band radar, which have greatly improved its sensitivity and reliability. Mr. Lage
had primary responsibilty for the K.-band maintenance in 1991.

v
