The photographs will be stored in a notebook in chronological
order.

e. A special high resolution digital weighing precipitation gauge will be
operated, as per last season, adjacent to the 2D-C to provide short term
precipitation rates for comparison to precipitation rate computations made
from the 2D-C images.

The following additional observations and experiments will be conducted as
time and the weather permit. Most of them util ize the second 2D-C cloud
probe and thus require that this probe be maintained as a mobile unit.
These experiments are listed in order of priority.

.
(1) Ground microphysics observations, using the mobile 2D-C cloud
probe, shadowgraphs, and photomicrographs, duri ng seedi ng of a super-
cooled fog either at the Truckee or Reno airports.

(2) Simultaneous ice crystal concentration measurements using two 2D-C
cloud probes, one operated on the cloud physics research aircraft and
the second aspirated on the ground. The aircraft will be asked to make
missed approaches for these observations and thus they will only be
possible at the Stead or Reno airport.

(3) Simultaneous ice crystal concentration measurements using two 2D-C
cloud probes, one mounted on the front bumper of a truck and driven, the
second aspi rated on the ground. Thi s experiment wi 11 have to be con-
ducted at Kingvale. Supplementary observations using photomicrographs
or oil-coated slides will be made at the same time. This experiment
should be done several times in varying snowfall and wind regimes.

II 1-21
