The crystal originating at this intersection will be used to calculate
the fallout point of that crystal.
d. Given that 90 percent of the nucleation at -6 oc will take place in
approximately 15 minutes, a certain spread will occur in the fallout foot
print footprint. A map of this footprint will be generated for each model
run. Nucleation will continue as the plume reaches colder and colder tem-
peratures but these footprints will not be calculated.

B. SKYWATER RADAR
A contractor group will operate the Skywater SWR-86 5-cm radar (table 3-1) at
Sheri dan duri ng the 1986-87 wi nter season. They wi 11 provi de all personnel
required to operate the radar for 24 hours per day during precipitation
events. The contractor will also provide a technician to calibrate the radar
on a non-interference basis each operational day and to be on call throughout
each day for radar maintenance and repair.

The Skywater radar will be operated routinely and data recorded as required on
all operational days. The radar shutdown time will be determined by the SCPP
Site Director or Seeding Coordinator. Under marginal weather conditions, the
radar will be operated occasionally to determine if echoes have developed in
the research area. Operations in this mode will support the AFO requirements
for radar information to classify cloud and storm types and aid in forecasting
the start of operations and provide a complete record of storm events before,
during, and after aircraft operations. During periods of no operations, the
radar will be checked for possible malfunctions.

The Skywater radar was refurbished between last field season and this coming
season. Several features were modified including the addition of a micro-
processor for scan control and modification of the scan converter system

1II-5
