I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

SUMMARY

A cloud seeding tracer experiment has been conducted in
the ']~ushar Mountain Range of southern Utah. Spec ia1 ice
(AgIJ and non-ice (In203) nucleating tracers have been re-
leased for the purpose of determining the targetting effec-
tiveness of the Utah operational seeding program and to
begin development of an index of seeding effectiveness based
on trace chemistry.

The ground-based generators used in the Utah project
are ,,,ell distributed throughout the region immediately to
the west of the center lines of the primary target area.
The conclusions reached indicate that the AgI and In203
aerosols released from these generators are far from being
uniformly distributed across the project target areas. Six
per cent of the snowpack sampled contained significant
si1vl~r or indium. This number is to be compared with the
25% of total storm hours which were actually seeded during
the :3amp1 i ng per iod .

Due to the small number of significant samples obtainE~d
in the study, limited success was obtained toward the deve-
lopment of an index of seeding effectiveness based on trace
chemistry.
