Evaluation of this information was performed in order to
define a network capable of providing sufficient information for evaluation
. of weather modification operaticms to be conducted. The factors con-
sidered in defining the network were: (1) what is the distribution of
precipitation with height; (2) how many measurement points are necessary
to define the areal destribution of precipitation; (3) what data are available
within the project area from other existing sources; (4) what is the accessi-
bility of selected pilot project measurement sites and their suitability for
reliable measurements; and (5) what instrument network can be installed and
maintained by WSSI personnel, compatible with project objectives. The
answers to these questions were determined and a network was defined I
based on professional judgment, which provided the most satisfactory
configuration for obtaining measurements, all factors considered.

-s-
