the ice crystal concentrations in clouds by either nucleating new crystals or freezing cloud
droplets. Alth~ugh cerlain experiments used hygroscopic materials to seed clouds to
enhance the coalescence process (Biswas and Dennis, 1911; Murty, 1989), very.few projects .
presently use this method to treat clouds. In all these experiments either waterspray or
salt was used as the seeding material. Considering. the importance of the cloud droplet
distribution and the effect chemical impurities might have on the precipitation formation
processes both in terms of the "warm rain" and "cold rain" process, new seeding material
could be developed with the optimal composition to take adva.ri.tage of these effects.

i:

i
I..

.

t .
j
I

.

17
