The track labeled 8800 ft. is the ridge track. The track <br />labeled 8300 ft. is the valley track. All portions of the ridge <br />track are at least 5 statute miles upwind of the 7800 ft contour <br />around Mt. Ingalls (8377 ft), and further than that from any <br />higher terrain. All portions of the valley track are at least 5 <br />statute miles downwind (for typical south-southwest winds) of the <br />7300 ft contour on the ridge from which seeding material and <br />tracer gas will be released. All terrain is less than 7300 ft <br />for more than 5 miles further downwind of the flight track. <br /> <br />The two SF6 release points are shown in Fig. 4.1. Typical <br />prevailing winds should transport the tracer to the north- <br />northwest. The flight tracks can be flown in either a racetrack <br />pattern or back-and-forth. Also, if the aircraft has flown out <br />of either the SF6 or ice crystal plume, it is requested that the <br />pilots break off the leg and begin sampling the plumes to <br />determine both the horizontal and vertical spread rates. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />In addition to the minimum altitudes of 8300 ft and 8800ft, <br />respectively, passes should be made at higher altitudes, possibly <br />as high as just above cloud, in order to locate the tops of the <br />plumes. Several passes should be made downwind of the ridge track <br /> <br />35 <br />
