Procedures for Initiatina Seeding

Development and refinement of procedures for forecasting seeding
periods (experimental units) will continuously evolve during the
five year project. A rather simple set of criteria have been
developed for declaring an experiment. These criteria include:

- indications of rime icing at any of the mountaintop
icing stations for a period of at least one hour.

- snow line is at or below 5,000 ft and the GUIDE model
output indicates the target is being treated.

If appropriate meteorological conditions are met and no
suspension is anticipated, seeding will begin from all ten sites.

Equipment reliability will be documented by the recording of
hourly status information transmitted by each dispenser back to
the poc throughout the field season. statistics are compiled by
monitoring software which can be summarized to determine the
percentage of time a particular dispenser may have been down.

Exploratory seeding will be conducted consisting of 6 hrs of
treatment once seeding begins. If conditions are still conducive
to seeding, seeding will terminate for 1 hr and then resume for 6

13
