<br />Section 8. - Tethersonde <br /> <br />A tethersonde system was operated whereby a balloon lifted sensors into the <br />upper air until the wind exceeded about 10 m/s and/or turbulence was too great <br />to control the balloon. The data were telemetered by radio to the ground. They <br />were then transcribed on paper and usually recorded on cassette tape for <br />playback into the IBM PC-AT and then the P-E. The sensors measured pressure, <br />air temperature, wet bulb temperature, wind speed and azimuth. Record counts <br />with a + sign are still being updated from the paper copies. <br /> <br />8-1 <br /> <br />
