The Ortiz Ditch Company, located in Conejoes County near La Jara, has submitted an
application for partial funding of the cost of rehabilitation of their diversion dam on the Alamosa
River. The project has been completed, and they are requesting a loan in the amount of $15,000
(approximately 36% of the $42,058 total cost) to refinance their cost share. ASCS will fund
50% of the project, and the company is applying for slightly less than their 50% cost share,
since some of the individual shareholders have already paid in cash.

The project was needed because the previous diversion structure was constructed of rock, hay
bales and trees.

The new diversion structure is constructed of concrete, and in accordance with SCS plans and
specifications. Mr. Pete Gallegos (SCS, La Jara) performed inspections during construction to
assure a quality project. I visited the project on December 8, 1994, and answered questions
regarding CWCB loan funding.

The Ortiz ditch has a capacity of 14.02 CFS, and diverts approximately 1200 acre feet of water
per year. The total ditch length is approximately 7000 feet, and 440 acres are irrigated. There
are 10 shareholders on the ditch.
