Coordinated a Survey of the riparian area along the Alamosa River. (Survey conducted by
the NRCS in January 1996.)
2. Coordinated a River Assessment of the Alamosa River. (Assessment conducted by the
NRCS regional riparian team in July of 1996.)
3. Helped develop a Management Plan for the Alamosa River Watershed. (Completed in
cooperation with the Conejos County Soil Conservation District, December 1997.)
4. Compiled aerial photography of the Alamosa River for planning and design work for
restoration, September 1997.
5. Installed 2 erosion-control pilot projects to demonstrate restoration techniques, 1998
6. Obtained funding for Conceptual Design for the Alamosa River. (D. Rosgen, March 1999.)
7. Obtained a regional permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for river restoration.
8. Completed river field survey for winter 1999 - 2000 projects, in partnership with the NRCS.

Proiect Area Description
The project area is the 18-mile stretch of the Alamosa River from Terrace Reservoir, through
the Town of Capulin, ending at highway 285 near La Jara. Land use in the project area is
predominantly agricultural and 98% of the land is privately owned. Approximately 100 owners
along the river run small farming operations that combine cropland, range, and pasture.

3
