7.2 Water Samples

Before samples are taken, strategic sampling locations will be identified. These locations are
areas where meters will be installed in the field. Permission will be obtained from respective
landowners, canal companies, and local governments prior to confirming these sites. The meter
survey will be used to obtain permission or find interested parties that could be contacted to
coordinate meter installatiom,

With permission from water distributors that are currently experimenting with meters, water
quality tests will also be conducted on water that feeds their meters if not already done so.

7.2.1 Water Quality Analysis

Once the sampling sites are verified and agreed upon, water samples will be picked up and
taken to the Utah State water quality laboratory. The following analyses will be conducted on
the samples:

. Total suspended solids

. Total dissolved solids

. Gradation of larger particles

. Alkalinity concentration

. Hardness concentration

. pH

7.3 Water Quality Data Summary

The results from these tests and other quallity data gathered would be used to provide criteria
for secondary water meters and determine the cause of problems with meters. This task
includes preparing a summary of the results from the water quality analysis and water quality
documentation.
