The Town also provided Wheeler with inflow, treated outflow, and water spill
data for both the 2-million-gallon (2 MG) and 1-million-gallon (1 MG) treatment plants
for the years 1999 and 2000. This data is summarized on Figures 8 and 9 and is
summarized in Table 5. Data was not available at the 2 MG plant for most of the year
2001 because of a damaged the meter. As a result, we used only the 1999 and 2000
data in our analysis. During these two years, the average annual inflow to the Town's
water treatment plants was 274 million gallons (841 acre-feet), During periods when
inflows exceeded the system demands and treated water storage capacity, excess
water was spilled at the treatment plants. This spilled water averaged 90 million
gallons (276 acre-feet) and was equivalent to 33 percent of the total inflow or 64
percent of the total metered demands. If this spilled water could be stored in the
Town's collection system, it would significantly increase the firm yield of the system.
