Feas1bility of Construction
of the
Upper Platte & Beaver Canal Company
Badger Creek Augmentation Project

Project Sponsor

The Upper Platte and Beaver Canal Company (UPBCC) is a Colorado
mutual ditch company and a non-profit corporation.

UPBCC was formed in late 1800's to construct and operate the
Upper Platte and Beaver Canal for the benefit of the
shareholders. The UPBCC currently has 100 shareholders with 1187
shares of stock. The Company can divert 234 cubic feet of water
per second of time from the South Platte River, at a headgate
located about 1 mile Northwest of Fort Morgan, at Log Lane
Village, Colorado. From this headgate, the UPBCC has had an
average annual diversion of 30,000 acre feet or approximately 25
acre feet per share.

The ground under the UPBCC is also irrigated with 93 tributary
groundwater wells. The wells pump on average 12,000 acre-feet of
water annually. These 93 wells are partially augmented under
their own augmentation plan. The remaining augmentation on these
wells is provided by the Groundwater Appropriators of the South
Platte (GASP) plan of operation.

Project Service Area

The service area is located in Morgan County, from about 1 mile
West of Fort Morgan to about 15 miles East of Fort Morgan. The
service area is located on the South side of the South Platte
River in Morgan County. The UPBCC service area irrigates on the
average 11,000 acres. The water is typically used to irrigate
corn, alfalfa, beans, and sugar beets. The elevation is 4275
feet.
