Feasibility of Construction
of the
Johnson and Edwards Ditch Company Augmentation Project

Project Sponsor

The Johnson and Edwards Ditch Company (JEDC) is a Colorado mutual
ditch company and a non-profit corporation.

The JEDC was formed in late 1800's to construct and operate the
Johnson and Edwards Ditch for the benefit of the shareholders.
The JEDC currently has 7 shareholders with 1500 shares of stock.
The Company can divert 63 cubic feet of water per second of time
from the South Platte River. The JEDC has had an average annual
diversion of 6,000 acre feet or approximately 4 acre feet per
share.

The ground under the JEDC is also irrigated with 12 tributary
groundwater wells. The wells pump on average 2,900 acre-feet of
water annually. The 12 wells are currently augmented under the
Groundwater Appropriators of the South Platte (GASP) plan of
operation. See Appendix A for current GASP records.

Project Service Area

The 3,000 acre service area of the JEDC is located about 23 miles
southwest of Sterling, and has approximately 7 miles of ditch.
The diversion and the first 2.5 miles of ditch are shared with
the Prewitt Reservoir Company under a 1912 agreement. The
diverted water is typically used to irrigate corn, alfalfa,
beans, and sugar beets. See map on page 3.

Feasibility Study
JEDC Aug Project
October 2003

1
