<br />001012 <br /> <br /> <br />/How Did the Kayak Park Come to Be? <br /> <br />:Kaya~ enthusiasts in Summit County presented the idea of a <br />whitewater park to the Breckenridge Open Space I <br />Commission one year ago. After evaluating each different <br />. . I <br />reach of the nver, the boaters and the Town settled onithe <br />possible location of the park near the Recreation Center. <br />The kayakers and the Colorado Whitewater Association <br />demonstrated the need for such a facility and the ability of <br />the activity to be compatible with fishing and other uses. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />""4i~:" <br /> <br />KqY'lker enjoying spring ~r~~;rr' ..,. <br /> <br />The boating facility represents a way to enjoy the restored <br />river beyond just watching it from the banks. <br /> <br />A hydrologic consultant, experienced in the design <br />of whitewater parks, was retained by the Town to design the <br />course and oversee the construction. Phase 1 of the Kayak <br />Park has just been completed. The dedication of Phase 1 <br />will take place on May 21,2001. Phase 2 will likely be <br />completed in 2002. . <br /> <br />
